In the Woods 03:40
-In the Woods- No ropes No nets No strings Only those awful things, That hold it down and hold it in Well, that’s where we begin With no breath, and no warmth, And no night, but no real foresight, And everyone's got a heart that beats, But they’re cold as ice And we’re in a place where no one cares And I miss you And I feel far from you And I don’t like it So, I’ll find a way No taste in wide twilight Loose sense, And the scurrying sounds on the ground As you place your face upon my chest, I lick your wounds I’ll lick your owl eyes It’s the pond where the fairies drink It’s the same where coyotes eat So, we go on through for our medicines And once their found we do it again 'Cause we’re in a place where no one cares And I miss you And I feel far from you And I don’t like it So, I’ll find a way Oh, in this? In this forest I kissed you If it was only in my mind
2.
-Pretty Bird, Pretty Bird- I heard you talk to birds Can you teach me their words? I’ve seen how they sit and sing And comfort me as I dream They nudge to show me that I can still do some good, And I just stand paralyzed wishing that I could So, please don’t share your sympathy for me They lead me down to the sea Yeah, they show me how to breathe, But they never consider to stay, And they always fly away They nudge to show me that I can still do some good, And I just stand paralyzed wishing that I could So, please don't share your pity for me Not me! Oh, me... I heard you talk to birds Is this your blessing or your curse?
3.
-Just another Keepsake- I’ll rip out the phone I’m so sick of the tone, And they’ll think no one’s at home There’s no one to talk to Only a few left to talk to Know, in this world I think of you, And I’m trying to read your mind, All the time So, let’s fire them angels Were they here anyway? ‘Cause there’s nothing you can ever say or do, That’s going to make you brave Now you’re here, Fending off the darkest days, And we can stare at the sea pining, But I just want to start again So, let’s fire them angels Were they here anyway? As we shatter and we scatter, I don’t know how, no, I don’t know how, To look into you: my little mirror So, has our vessel sailed to a better place – Where the skies are blue And only the prettiest shades of gray? Well, yes, I hesitate to even say, ‘Cause the map is lost; it’s hiding It’s somewhere, but it’s clearly out of place But, I like your face So, let’s fire them angels Were they here anyway? ‘Cause there’s nothing you can ever say or do, That’s going to make you brave Now you’re here, Fending off the darkest days, And we can stare at the sea pining, But I just want to start again So, let’s fire them angels Were they here anyway? As we shatter and we scatter, I don’t know how, no, I don’t know how, To look into you: my little mirror It was amazing, But it’s really gone I sing it all back into song, And I breathe your name into the howling of the dark
4.
-Follow Through- I only see the stars in your eyes in the night Well, you said there are galaxies in my eyes in the daylight So, we’re just going to battle through Just me and you Well, it’s always been true ‘Cause who else could be by my side if I walk from you? Baby, you gotta be true ‘Cause in the end we would break in two, With nothing to do Just hang our greens and blues And you said we don’t follow through But it was you who put me through all the obstacles and the hoops So, just who doesn't follow through? And if I said it was time to go, Would you follow or even show? Would you find the strength to leave, baby? ‘Cause there are ways to live in evergreens So, who’s the foolish one not to follow through? Hey, if you want me to, I found this glue, So, maybe I could be with you ‘Cause it’s so hard to be as two, To have no energy to have love for you So, baby, let’s go for a little walk We can smile and talk and wander about ‘Cause I can’t leave or disguise it When it comes to you Oh, what to do? For now let’s just hold our hands Oh, kinky you, we had a good fuck or two And you said we don’t follow through But it was you who put me through all the obstacles and the hoops So, just who doesn’t follow through? And if I said it was time to go, Would you follow or even show? Would you find the strength to leave, baby? ‘Cause there are ways to live out your dreams So, who’s the foolish one not to follow through? Oh, brilliant you, oh, brilliant you I growl for you Oh, brilliant you, oh, brilliant you I’m on the prowl for you Oh, brilliant you, oh, silly you I still howl for you

about

Paul DeMarte’s lyrics are a mixture of, what he has deemed, “autobiographical tales of despair, social observations of others’ failings/shortcomings and nursery rhymes for demented children.” This is clearly demonstrated throughout the album and backed by his driving, sometimes whimsical, array of guitar lines. He is emotionally ambitious and focused within his vocal styling. Paul states, “I remember why I wrote each and every word to the songs we perform, and I’ll show you what I felt and continue to feel.”

Michael Genova’s bass is the punch and groove that guide audience members through this entire album. Thick and full of tone, these bass lines swirl around, and in and out, of the guitars and drums that provide for a directed, yet jovial experience. Mike owns his bass style during these tracks and, even though shaking and grooving, he will show you that he is all business.

Ian Scholfield is the band’s hammer. Perhaps he is Thor! Ian would say he is the moral compass of the band, and Paul and Mike might raise an eyebrow to that notion. Ian is aggressive and in control during this album, and he is the marker/beckon the other members follow. His hits are creative and often times different from one take to the next. Ian clearly is on board for delivering an emotional and musical performance.

Billy Armijo is the glue/stitching that put this entire album together. We have recorded with him in the past and it has always been an amazing, relaxed and creative experience. We appreciate all of the input he has given us over the years and cherish his style of recording. We are also grateful to have him as a guest musician on several of the tracks. He added some extra flare and soul to this entire EP.

We are also quite thankful to Keturah Davis who contributed all the artwork for this album and for our various online sites. She has an amazing and unique perspective within everyday places and events, and, we feel, this blends amazingly well with the style of the album. Keturah is a Chicago-based photographer and has been credited in many beautiful works over the years. Paul and Keturah have been friends for over half of their lives and are happy to continue working on various projects together.

We are also thankful to have additional contributions to this album and input from our friends. This EP is the first of two – this marking the start of the summer and the second is planned for release at the end of the summer.

We hope you enjoy it!
